YELL PICTURE PUZZLE

Dr. Watson's Narrative

"One morning in late September - Holmes was away working a case on the Continent - I sat reading the Medical Journal after breakfast, when Mrs. Hudson brought me a telegram. It was addressed to me, and ran thus:

Get document in clock on mantelpiece.
Follow instructions given therein.
Future of the Nation may depend on it.
HOLMES

Now this sounded like a simple enough task. However, the document Holmes was referring to was kept in a secret compartment in the clock on the mantelpiece. It would unlock only if you manipulated a row of small letters on the back in a way that would form a certain password. And Holmes had conveniently forgotten to inform me what this password was.

Now I knew that Holmes was demanding as far as the mental faculties of his contemporaries were concerned. But he surely would not demand the impossible. He must have left some clues for me so that I would be able to figure out what the password was. So I would simply apply his methods and surely the secret compartment would open for me..."

You can help Watson to open Holmes' secret compartment:

  • Klick on "Puzzle One", "Puzzle Two" and "Puzzle Three" in the picture above. Each time you click on one of the three, you will be directed to a page featuring a picture puzzle you have to solve. Each picture is representing in a - more or less - symbolic fashion a term used in YELL. And each of these three terms is made up of two words. So after having solved all three puzzles, you will have six words.

A small hint: when solving the puzzles, do not allow the letters to confuse you. Read, listen and transcribe! And since the puzzles are quite difficult, do not hesitate to ask for more hints if you should need them. Just send a mail to yell@welcomeholmes.com

  • Note all six words in a row, starting with the first word of the first puzzle and ending with the last word of the third puzzle.

  • Now make them into a password in the following way:

    1. 2nd letter of 1st word
    2. 1st letter of 2nd word
    3. 1st letter of 4th word
    4. 2nd letter of 4th word
    5. 6th letter of 6th word

  • Then click on "Secret Compartment" in the picture above. You will be asked to enter username and password. Your login name is piper. Enter this name and the password you have deduced from the clues.

Now Holmes' secret compartment will open for you and you can read the document hidden in the clock on the mantelpiece. And don't forget to follow the instructions given in this document...
